My Hair UK: Planning an FUE Hair Transplant in the UK

My Hair UK is a UK service, founded in 2023, that arranges FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) hair, beard and eyebrow transplants. Procedures are carried out by GMC-registered surgeons at two clinics registered with the CQC: Speakers House, 39 Deansgate, Manchester, and 158-160 Kenton Road, Harrow, London, which is rated Good by the CQC. Its office is at 35 Berkeley Square, Berkeley Suite, London, W1J 5BF.

How FUE works

In FUE, individual follicular units are removed from the back of the scalp with a small punch, leaving tiny dot scars rather than a line. The grafts are extracted before incisions are made. The surgeon then creates small openings in the thinning area and places each graft at the angle the surrounding hair grows. It's done under local anaesthetic, and most people go home the same day. The NHS page on hair transplants explains the procedure and its risks.

Working out how many grafts you need

The number of grafts depends on the size of the thinning area, the density aimed for and how much donor hair there is. Before booking a consultation, you can estimate your graft numbers with My Hair UK's 3D calculator, which lets you rotate a model head and adjust the hairline and crown. The surgeon confirms the final number after examining your scalp.

The consultation

Every patient chooses a named surgeon and has a free in-person consultation with them. The surgeon looks at the pattern of hair loss, scalp health, donor density and medical history, and talks through realistic goals, including a hairline that will still suit you as you get older. Anyone who isn't a good candidate is told so.

PRP as an option

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is available on surgery day as an optional extra. The evidence for it is mixed. A review in Dermatologic Surgery found that PRP may improve hair density, but results vary between studies. It costs £295 for one session or £695 for three.

Aftercare

Aftercare includes free post-operative medication, written instructions, a patient portal with videos from the surgeons, monthly check-ins and free follow-up consultations with the surgeon at 6 and 12 months.
